Recording Training

Recording a volunteer's First Aid training on the Scouts learning system

First Aid training can only be added to a volunteers learning record by a District Learning Assessor, after a trainer has confirmed the First Response course criteria has been met.

Courses delivered by Cabot

Volunteers from Cabot who attend a course delivered by the District will have this training recorded on the membership system by a member of the District Volunteering Support Team shortly after the course date. A certificate will also be issued for the volunteer’s own records.

Volunteers from outside of Cabot will need to send their certificate on to the relevant Learning Assessors within their own area to have their training recorded—if they are unsure who this is they should contact their Lead Volunteer for more information.

Volunteers that have completed an internal qualification (a Scout First Response course delivered elsewhere in Scouting) will need to submit their certificate to the District in order to have their training recorded.

External qualifications

Any course that is set by a regulated body and covers the Scouts First Response criteria, recognition, and length requirements can be considered as a suitable alternative to a First Response course. More guidance on using external first aid qualifications can be found in Fact Sheet 120052.

All external qualifications must be checked and approved by a District First Response Trainer in order to confirm these requirements have been met. Volunteers will need to submit their qualification certificate, along with evidence as explained below in order to have their learning record updated.

Evidencing external qualifications

The easiest way to evidence an external qualification is for the candidate to ask the course trainer to fill in and sign the letter showing which First Response criteria were covered in the course, which can then be uploaded to the learning system alongside their course certificate.

Most commonly, external courses do not cover an assessment of Child CPR which is a required element for First Response. In this instance the volunteer can arrange to meet with a First Response Trainer to complete the short learning and assessment element needed to complete this. After submitting their external qualification using the form above a District trainer will contact the volunteer to arrange this.

For First Aid at Work, Emergency First Aid at Work, and RYA First Aid courses, additional e-learning covering the First Response elements not delivered in the course should be completed first, then validation of the practical elements (Child CPR) can be arranged with a District trainer.

Training courses

The District runs First Aid courses throughout the year, volunteers can book themselves onto one of these through the calendar.
